Pink & White Game

The prairie’s top junior talent was on full display from January 21 to 22 when the SJHL/MJHL annual showcase was held at the Co-operators Centre in Regina.  While always a spotlight for the best up and coming talent in junior hockey, this year’s showcase had one extra special feature – The SaskTel Be Kind Online Pink & White Game!

The game held on January 22 was attended by over 600 special guests. Students from seven Regina area schools attended the game which was followed by our annual bullying prevention rally, featuring guest speaker Cpl. Sean Chiddenton from the RCMP. It was a fun day that included some great hockey, lots of cheering, a teacher shoot-out, and most importantly, spreading our message about cyberbullying prevention and the importance of kindness.

“The SJHL is honoured to host the SaskTel Be Kind Online Pink and White Game as this partnership allows our players to share their experiences and struggles with bullying while letting other youth know they’re not alone,” said Bill Chow, President of the SJHL. “This event creates conversations with our players and future players that can be rallying points to stand up against bullying. We hope that endeavours such as this will allow youth to spread some positivity and with the cooperation coming from the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, we know the Be Kind Online Pink and White Game will help break the silence.”

“It’s very important for kids to understand we are all different and those differences make us unique,” said Cpl. Chiddenton. “Bullying someone can have long lasting effects on them right into adulthood; ruing a person’s self-confidence. It can also make them mistreat other people.”

“What has changed is more and more kids are finding the courage to speak out, or to rise above the comments from others,” said Chiddenton. “More attention is being given to this problem with things like Pink Shirt Day, and now the Pink and White Game and Be Kind Online Rally, kids are standing up for themselves and their friends!”
