Ongoing development of kindness activities in our school
The Weyburn Comprehensive School SRC has formed a committee to create ways for the student body to practice kindness. Leadership 30 class held their own kindness event. This event involved students wearing paper plates on their backs, that staff and students could write kind messages onto for the students to read at the end of the activity. The activity was a huge success, as some of the students decided to keep the plates in their lockers. Another fun activity was a Kahoot about “the science of kindness” to teach students the impact of kindness on moods and general outlook. Prizes were handed out to the top three winners of the Kahoot quiz.
In April, the students set up a table in the common area at the school for staff and students to write messages of kindness. The team also set up a “take what you need wall,” where sticky notes with kindness messages are available for students to take what message they need that day. April is also “Be Kind to the Earth,” and to facilitate this the SRC are fundraising to plant 2 trees on the school property, by selling lemonade and popcorn. May is “Be Kind to Yourself” and June is “Be Kind to Each other.”
The Be Kind Online Grant supported the installation of an Art Piece designed by a First Nations artist, representing Treaty 4 along with connections to our local school and local area.
