Fairhaven’s Care Partners

My name is Maham Fatima and I volunteer at Fairhaven school. While I was volunteering, I noticed that many kids were not being nice to each other. When I even had to intervene between a group of older children bullying a younger student, I realized something had to be done. Luckily while on a bus I saw an ad for SaskTel’s I Am Stronger campaign and I started to think of ideas. I applied for the grant and brainstormed ideas with Ms. Morstad that would promote kindness and prevent bullying. We decided to have the students make friendship bracelets and exchange them with their care partners. We will also buy some board games for care partners to play together and we will do some random acts of kindness by Ms. Morstad’s grade one class.

Board Games for Care Partners

We bought some board games for care partners to play together. Care partners support each other and make children feel more included. A older student and younger student are paired together. They meet every Friday during school. With the board games children can play together and build friendships. Through play, children learn to accept people regardless of their colour, age, race, religion, sex, or national origin. By promoting kindness we can eliminate bullying.
