Never Be a Bully T-Shirts
Students at the Prince Arthur Community School wanted to extend their Pink Shirt Day kindness a little further by designing their own pink shirts. “This year, one of our school goals is to be a safe school for everyone. This means that we all treat each other with kindness and make it a safe place for everyone,” stated the school’s principal Sandra Baldwin. Sandra and her students have acknowledged that not all families can afford to buy specialized t-shirts for Pink Shirt Day. Therefore, the students chose to apply for the Be Kind Online grant to create their own custom pink shirts and provide them for students that are unable to purchase their own.
Prince Arthur Community School also chose to incorporate Indigenous elements in honor of truth and reconciliation, after having an elder speak about the importance and significance of the Circle of Courage and the traits and colors. They divided the students and staff into one of four families, which were based on the four traits and colors of the “Circle of Courage.” In addition, each month the school focuses on one of the four traits. Students and staff set intentions/focus/goals based on the trait. In February, for Pink Shirt Day, staff and students will be focusing on belonging/diligence/cooperation.
