Cornerstone Family and Youth

Cornerstone Family and Youth Centre partners with Gordon F. Kells Highschool and Carlyle Elementary School to deliver an afterschool program for girls grades 5-12 called Girls Group. They meet every Tuesday and Thursday from October to June. The idea of Girls Group is to implant, promote, and teach kindness between both schools, at home life, and the community of Carlyle and surrounding area including White Bear First Nation.

When the pandemic hit, the Girls Groups were put on hold. With all in-person meetings cancelled, the Program Coordinator, Carli Wollbaum, found a way for the Girls Groups to continue in a virtual format. She found an amazing journal/workbook called Big Life Journal for Tweens/Teens that focuses on kindness and growing yourself. Her goal is to work through the book by hosting virtual meetings with the Girls Group over Zoom. The idea is to apply the lessons in the book to online bullying, being safe online, and promoting kindness at school and home.
