Shades of Kindness

The Shades of Kindness program is an incredible initiative designed by eight of the sixth-grade students at St. Kateri School, which aims to address mental health and nurture a culture of empathy, respect, and support. With the celebration of Pink Shirt Day at the school and the generous support of Be Kind Online program, a lasting impact was made by providing every student in Mr. Larson’s grade 6 class with a customized pink t-shirt. These shirts represented much more than a symbol; they stood for a collective stand against bullying and a commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment.

The students in Mr. Larson’s class all wore their shirts on the same day and dedicated a wellness day to both physical and mental health with their little buddy classroom. This ensured that students not only understood the importance of kindness but also experienced it in their daily lives.

Through this program, conversations, awareness, and resources were created and distributed within the school to reinforce the values of Pink Shirt Day and anti-bullying efforts. “The impact of this initiative has been profound. As each student proudly donned their pink shirt, a wave of unity and compassion spread throughout the school among other students, classes, and staff members. This program fostered an atmosphere where kindness can be the norm and actively practiced.” – Mr. Larson

Shades of Kindness is not just a one-time program; it is a movement that aims to leave a legacy of empathy and support through these grade 6 students, St. Kateri as a school, and the Harbour Landing community.
