Sharing and Learning the Tipi Teaching

St. John Community School has been buzzing with creativity and compassion, as students design and share inspiring presentations with their wider school community. So far this year, students have performed thoughtful skits centered on the Tipi Teachings of Thankfulness, Humility, Happiness, and Faith—each one offering new insights into the many facets of kindness.

Throughout the year, the school community is exploring the Tipi Teachings, a set of guiding principles that encourage living with kindness and integrity. Each month spotlights a different teaching:

  • Love (sâkihitowin): Demonstrated through caring, empathy, and support for others.
  • Respect (mâmawohkamâtowin): Practiced by treating everyone as one wishes to be treated.
  • Courage (sohkeyitamowin): Shown by choosing to do what is right, even when it’s hard.
  • Honesty (tapwewin): Embodied by speaking and acting truthfully.
  • Wisdom (sákihiwíhk): Making thoughtful decisions guided by learning and experience.
  • Humility (tapahteyimowin): Recognizing one’s place and honoring the worth of others.
  • Truth (tâpwewin): Living in an authentic and genuine manner.

In February, students will present on the teaching of LOVE, exploring how empathy and care can positively shape their school environment. St. John Community School’s commitment to kindness is reflected in everyday acts—from including classmates at recess to sharing kind words and checking in on friends. The Tipi Teachings continue to inspire everyone to bring more kindness into daily life, making the school a warmer and more welcoming place for all.
