The Safety Nest
An ELA 9 unit at Englefeld School, called “Conflicts, Challenges, Issues and Choices – Doing the Right Thing,” inspired students to make a real-world impact on their community. Using the persuasive writing skills they learned in the unit; the students applied for and received the Be Kind Online grant.
The grant was used to transform an old, dark, and uncomfortable textbook storage room into a cozy counselor’s office, which the students named “The Safety Nest.” This new space provides a quiet and comfortable place for anyone who needs a moment to themselves. It promotes mental health and well-being among students and staff and is a testament to the power of young people to make positive changes in their community.
